Cocoon is the mattress-in-a-box brand from parent company Sealy. In Canada, they offer two different models: Classic and Essential. Cocoon Essential is the subject of this review.

As the lowest-priced entry in the Cocoon lineup, the Essential mattress has the now time-tested design of many other all-foam mattresses: stretchy fabric cover, memory foam layer, and one firmness option.

For many shoppers, the “Sealy” in Cocoon by Sealy could lend legitimacy to a brand that faces stiff competition in Canada. And according to our engineer testing, the mattress’s excellent edge-support score (8.9 / 10) could make it a winner.

However, a few important factors keep this mattress outside the top spots on our list of Best Foam Mattresses. First is cost: Cocoon Essential ($899 CDN for a queen) is pricier than many other comparable foam mattresses, like Juno ($499) or Douglas ($799). Next is features: Cocoon Essential lacks cooling gel foam and a machine-washable cover, which are qualities that add comfort and convenience. Last is reviews: Cocoon’s website lists only a small number of customer reviews. With many competitors showcasing thousands of 5-star reviews, shoppers may not have enough assurance that Cocoon is worth investing in.
